Rich Addonizio, CPT
Personal Trainer
Experience/Certifications/Education: I am a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer through I.S.S.A. – International Sports Sciences Association. I have been working here at Hampshire Hills since Sept. 2009. Prior to that time I was a top performing trainer at Best Fitness in Nashua, NH. I have been involved with fitness as both a trainee and trainer for over 20 years. My clients have ranged from those rehabbing from injuries, to those seeking weight loss, to competitive athletes. Currently, I am working towards earning my next certification through the American College of Sports Medicine.
Interests: I enjoy spending time camping with my wife and two sons in the summer, as well as being a Den leader for my local Cub Scout troop 264. I am an amateur competitor in the sport of Strongman Athletics (like World’s Strongest Man). My highest placings to date are 2nd as a novice in my first competition and 2nd as a heavy weight in the open class. I currently hold the New Hampshire state record for Atlas stone over bar in the heavy weight class.
Why I love Fitness: Health and fitness has been a part of my life since I was 13 years old, when my older brother brought me to my first gym. By 15 the “iron bug” had bitten deep, and I’ve never stopped working out since! I transformed myself from a weak, skinny kid into a strong, confident adult and I greatly enjoy guiding clients on their own personal transformations. Teaching people how to care for their bodies and live stronger, healthier lives is why I come to work every day.
Brian Costain, BS
Personal Trainer
Experience/Certifications/Education: I have a BS in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) from Arizona State University. I have been in the industry for four years now. I have had experience from working with everyone from elite athletes to special populations, general weight loss for the public, and injury rehab at various establishments in both New Hampshire and Arizona. Currently, I am working towards earning my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Interests: Fitness is my main interest but in my free time I enjoy hanging with family and friends, playing basketball, soccer, throwing around the lacrosse ball, skiing, working out, movies and reading psychology. I love to ride my motorcycle and ATV during the summer. Recently, I have found a new hobby with kick boxing.
Why I love Fitness: I love fitness because it has a way of showing people who they really are, both physically and mentally. Besides all of the known health benefits, I allow people to come in and escape life’s stresses for a certain period of time. At the same time they work hard towards accomplishing a goal for themselves. I love to show people how exercise can be extremely fun as well as beneficial for countless reasons. I take pride in seeing people reach their goals.
Shelby Young, BS, CPT, CF1, CF Nutrition, CF Olympic Weight Lifting, Personal Trainer
Experience/Certifications/Education: I earned my BS in Physical Education from Plymouth State University with a Minor in Health Education. I’ve currently been working for Hampshire Hills for close to 4 years and have been involved with coaching/training for over a decade. I have experience working with people of all fitness levels from rehab situations to collegiate and professional athletes. I am a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and a CrossFit Level 1 Instructor. I have also acquired my CrossFit Nutrition and Olympic Weightlifting Certifications.
Interests: I am a competitive Mixed Martial Artist which takes up quite a bit of my time away from work, but when I am free I enjoy watching movies, going to concerts, and reading. My favorite authors are Henry Rollins and Chuck Palahniuk. I have a black belt in Kenpo Karate, a green belt in Mantis Kung Fu, and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and have studied various other traditional martial arts as well. I also have a very diverse athletic background with experience in Gymnastics, Lacrosse, Football, Track & Field, Baseball, Snowboarding, Swimming, and even race car driving.
Why I love Fitness: I’ve always respected strength and determination and I am fascinated with the ability of the human body to transform itself when the right elements of nutrition and exercise are used properly. Helping people achieve that transformation gives me a great sense of satisfaction because I get to take part in their physical and mental growth.
